Richard has accumulated an impressive 30-year career as a graphic artist, art and creative director, working in renowned cities like Vienna, Berlin, San Francisco, and New York. Throughout his professional journey, he has collaborated with industry giants, including George Lucas, and his artistic prowess has earned him numerous esteemed design awards, notably the Webby, American Graphic Design, Maggie, Ozzie, and Telly awards. Recently, his animated short film titled "Graph Your Story" received three selections at prestigious film festivals, namely the Red Rock Film Festival in Utah, the Portland Film Festival, and the Austrian Film Festival.
As a self-taught artist, Richard finds solace and fulfillment in expressionism, often reimagining and paying homage to the masterpieces of the Blue Rider group. Influenced by the likes of Heinrich Campendonk, Franz Marc, Gabriele Münter, and Wassily Kandinsky, he constantly expands his artistic horizons by exploring the styles of other notable artists such as Kiki Kogelnik, Max Ernst, Johannes Vermeer, Max Pechstein, Kees van Dongen, Johannes Molzahn, Fernand Léger, and Gustav Klimt, incorporating their techniques into his own paintings.
In his latest exhibition, "REVEAL: The Empowerment of Appropriation Art," Richard delves into the theory that the notion of an original and singular artistic genius is, in fact, a myth. He explores the influence of masters like Goya, who replicated the works of Diego Velazquez, and Picasso, who drew inspiration from Braque, as well as the impact of Campendonk's association with Kandinsky. The exhibition serves as a revelation, highlighting that no matter how meticulously reproduced, a copy can never fully capture the essence of the original due to the ever-shifting context it exists within. Richard emphasizes that since we are constantly shaped by history, our perspectives are forever in flux.
In addition to his artistic pursuits, Richard's paintings have served as a means to support causes close to his heart. Through his artwork, he has raised thousands of dollars for organizations such as the Equal Justice Initiative , No Kid Hungry , Save Sight Now and helpushelp.charity , which work towards safeguarding the well-being of children in Ukraine.
Each painting Richard creates is a testament to his heart and soul, encapsulating a moment of his life. These artworks embody his profound passion and the intense emotions he experiences during their creation. For Richard, painting is an intimate and personal journey, allowing him to express his innermost self.
